In my previous post, I talked about my favorite Halloween Decoration Ideas. In the post, I mentioned one of the cutest decoration ideas – DIY pumpkin doughnuts! Today I am going to show you step by step how to make these adorable pumpkin doughnuts.
Step One: Find some cute doughnut-shaped pumpkins
Criteria for selecting the pumpkins? I would say: small (have you seen giant doughnuts?), smooth (easier to paint), and even (you don’t want your doughnuts to look like defected.)
Step Two: Paint the foundation with acrylic paint
Paint the foundation with acrylic paint. The foundation will be one “flavor” of your doughnut. In the picture, my foundation is strawberry. After you finish, let air dry. Acrylic paints dry super fast, just allow 5 minutes.
Tips: You can find a good acrylic paint and brushes in a local art supplies shop. I recommend this Complete Acrylic Paint Set for Kids & Adults . It includes a beautiful 24x paint set, 15 brushes, a sponge and a mixing art knife for lower than $20. You can create as many “taste” profiles as you want with it!
Step Three: Paint your second flavor
Paint the top half/two-thirds of your pumpkins with your second color. Leave a small circle around the stem (You can paint the stem itself, if desired). And let dry. In the picture, my second flavor is chocolate, yum!!
Tips: Use the medium size brush that comes in the Painting Set to paint the top part of the doughnut. Since the pumpkin’s surface is not flat, there will be places that you can’t cover fully. Use the smallest size brush to fill in any parts that are not painted.
Step Four: Paint sprinkles EVERYWHERE!
The most fun and joyful part is here! Use the small paint brush to paint colorful sprinkles on your doughnuts.
Tips: If you are not sure of how big the sprinkles should be, just tap with a small size brush.
Step Five: Make a few of the doughnuts and put them in a doughnut box
If you have a paper box, place your doughnuts nicely in it and that will make your DIY pumpkin doughnuts look more real! This will be a perfect home decoration and also a creative gift for your family or friend.
Now, don’t eat them. Go buy yourself some doughnuts instead!
